#whereisyourtown: Bay Head, NJ
Located at the head of the Barnegat Bay (hence the name), Bay Head is a town where you say hello to everyone you pass on your bike and where walking into someone’s house is commonplace. Growing up, kids spend their days in the sailing program or taking tennis lessons with their only worry being whether they will have a burger or hot dog for dinner.
At the end of the school year, my family and I would pack up our car and head to the shore, excited to smell the salty air and put our feet in the sand. Every morning we put on a bathing suit, whether it was the perfect beach day or pouring down rain, and grab some glazed crumb cake from Mueller’s Bakery. We spent the days sailing, playing tennis, or relaxing at the beach and after the days activities were finished we would hop in the outside shower and crush some burgers and Jersey corn.
In Bay Head everything is two streets away; the beach to the bay, your house to your friend’s, and the bakery to the tennis courts. Your bikes (covered in rust from the time you thought it was funny to ride it into the ocean) got you anywhere you needed to go and as a kid gave you the feeling that you were independent, while in no danger.
These days, whether I am enjoying my morning cup of coffee on the front porch or a beer while watching the sun go down (my dad’s entire Instagram is dedicated to Bay Head sunsets--they’re the best), it will always be my happy place. It’s where I know my family, friends, and best memories will always be.
Sea's the day!
